We the people of Mende's town want to thank Lifewater and its sponsors for the repair work on our hand pump. May God bless you. -- Alfred Tainon, Town Chief
Lifewater drilled water wells in Mende's Town several years ago. Over time, due to constant use, the hand-powered pumps on some of the wells began failing. When a pump wouldn't work anymore, residents were forced to begin gathering water from creeks, open hand-dug wells and other unsafe sources, which put children and adults of risk of diarrhea and other waterborne illnesses. The only other option was long walks to safe sources that are so far away that to get to them, women would sacrifice time needed each day to care for their families, and children would sacrifice time each day needed to be in school. Lifewater returned to Mende's Town recently and, thanks to our donors, repaired the broken hand pumps (including this one). Safe water is flowing from the well again, and women and children are no longer spending hours each day in search of water. "Lifewater has once again come to our rescue and prevented the long suffering of a community in need of this precious commodity -- clean water," residents told us.
