Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |

Kofan Gwari is a community in Nigeria's Nasarawa State that has struggled without reliable access to safe water after the hand pumps on their local wells failed. The villagers, particularly the women, would walk about three kilometres each way to fetch water from swamps and ponds shared with pigs and cattle. Drinking from these stagnant sources resulted in many children and adults becoming sick with diarrheal diseases, including typhoid. "Our children have suffered from diarrhea, skin rashes, and infections," a local resident called Yakubu told us. "When you came to tell us about the water project, we did not believe it would happen. Now we have safe water a few metres from our houses!" Thanks to Lifewater donors, the local wells (including this one) have been rehabilitated, including new hand pumps, so safe and accessible water is available to everyone. The community is much healthier and happier. |
