A message from the community |
We the people of Ubo Saidu village really appreciate the provision of water and repairs to the borehole (or well) in our community. It went many years without repair, but now we have it working. We thank you for your help. God bless you. -- Community Leaders |
Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |
This is one of several communities in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory that had wells but the hand pumps on them were not properly maintained. They had broken down. This created long lines of people waiting to fetch water for the wells still functioning. Those who could not bear the wait resorted to open hand-dug wells that were often contaminated. Lifewater repaired the hand pumps on wells in several communities, including this one. Our intervention meant there were more wells to meet everyone’s water needs. People didn’t need to drink from contaminated sources, which has scaled down the incidences of waterborne infections. We are grateful to God for the opportunity to serve these communities, which expressed their deep gratitude to everyone whose sacrifice made this happen. |
