Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |
Zubah Town is within the Montserrado, Paynesville area. This is a very big community with more of than 1,500 community dwellers. There is a high amount of swamp water coverage in this village, all of which is unsafe to drink. When the pump broke down, the great majority of the population went back to fetching drinking water from unprotected sources (rivers, springs, ponds, rain water, as well as a developed pit near the river and a few traditional hand-dug wells in the town). These water sources are not well-protected from wild and domestic animals’ and human beings’ urine and feces. People’s practice of open defecation accelerated the contamination of water sources. As a result, the community dwellers urgently needed the pump repair that Lifewater carried out in the community. Now, the community is free from the threat of waterborne diseases. Further, the local population is thriving, being able to return to having more time for their small business and schools. Locals are also saving the little income they make for they do not need to purchase bagged water which, sadly, was not necessarily safe for drinking but further exposed them to more waterborne diseases. Everyone was very happy to see the Lifewater team come to complete the needed pump maintenance and repairs. |
