A message from the community

Dear Sir/Madame,

As the chief of this quarter, I want to extend greetings and thanks for all the inhabitants.  We have had 10 years of poor water and all have suffered at one time or another with diarrhea and other sicknesses and frequently get a very itchy skin rash from the water we wash in.  Your presence with the rig coming in to drill here was exciting and such an answer to our need.  Please extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who helped with this project, we are much encouraged.

Town Chief

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Kurkai Q3 is located on the outskirt of the nation's most populous county, Montserrado. Korkeiya, as it is locally pronounce is a small town that extend deep in the belle forest. Afflicted with extreme poverty, locals of Kurkai Town depend of subsistence farming and charcoal as a means of survival to feed their family. In Kurkai, the outbreak of waterborne diseases is frequent and has claim the lives of many infants and young preschool children. Family size within the town is very large, ranging from seven to ten in a household. ‘‘We have many children and there is no means to feed them’’ Finda Tambah a resident of the town explained. According to her, she and others would wake up early in the morning to go to well far away or to the river and return late at night before they can set a pot on the fire to begin their day’s cook. Because of the distance they are compelled to drink from the only hand dug well that lies nearby. The night gets so dark it makes it difficult to walk during the night to fetch water. ‘‘Thank God for Lifewater’’ one resident mentioned. ‘‘For before Lifewater give us this hand pump we used to walk long distances in search of water’’ she continued.

Today the Town stands grateful that their safe drinking water problem is now a thing of the past. ‘‘Our worries are finally over, now our children can go to school and live free from those running stomach. Fanta Jalloh a women leader of the Town said. ‘‘Lifewater has done more than enough for us, we are so happy’’ another woman added. As the community moves on, they move with a new hope of a free life from waterborne diseases but hope that one day their dream of a better society will exist in their local Town.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
