A message from the community

Dear Sir/Madame,

Your kind gesture of providing us a handpump and an excellent workshop came at our time of great need. As a whole we offer to you and to all who helped contribute to this project our heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude.  Our relief is immeasurable for we have watched many of our children become ill and some so sick they perished.

Our capacity to handle the present epidemic has been hightened with the workshop you provided.  So many things we had no idea about and it became clear to us that many of our afflictions were avoidable if we took more care in our hygiene.  Thank you so much

Warmest regards

Siaffa Massaguio

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Block-5 (Quarter-5) community of Lost G-4 is situated at upper G-4 at the far north of the community block. Located on a low swamp land, the community's only water source is a old hand dug well posing two major problem during the year. In the rainy season the rain water that flows from upper G-4 fills the well causing the water to be completely undrinkable. Similarly, the well water also develops odour in the dry season giving the water a swampy mud smell. Layered on these issues is the extremely poor sanitary conditions and very low level of health and hygiene education exposing the entire community to a variety of water borne disease leading them to have a very high infant mortality.  Their medical costs on the average are much higher than other villages and with the lack of health comes even more economic hardships. Farming is the only means of survival here on of the young men of the community explained.

It is clearly visible that this intervention of a new handpump will continue to have a far reaching impact of the health and living condition of community dwellers. Additionally, the intervention also serve a limitless impact far curbing the increase rate of mortality as well as a negative impact on the ability to work due to poor health.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
