A message from the community

Dear Sir/Madame:

As one entity the entire community send their thanksgiving for your generous act of humanity which we will enjoy every day from this point on.  Our struggles for water have been since we first formed this quarter and now after such a long time, you have brought us the solution and at a time when so many other factors make our lives even harder.  Now our joy is complete and our hope restored by your kindness.

Our prayers go to our Lord asking that He continue to support you with the funding and strength and health to continue doing this good work

Kindest regards

Christopher Worgath

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Lost G-4 community is located within the vicinity of Browerville city located in rural Montserrado County.  Lost G-4 Quarter-4 perfectly sits at the entrance of the entire Lost G-4 Settlement. The existence of this community can be trace back to the long bloody Liberia Civil war. According to local tribal men of the community, Lost G-4 acquired its name when a local company named G-4 provided the only employment for community dwellers there. However, the company named G-4 had to shut down all operation in Liberia when the war got intense leaving the community with the name Lost G-4.

At the moment, thanks to affluent Liberian who once live in the community but immigrated to the United States, Lost G-4 is proud of a nearly complete one hundred beds hospital. Nevertheless, the community stands in dying need of safe drinking and access to quality health and hygiene education. Livelihood in the community are base mainly on petty trade and small scale farming. The  lack of treated water supply and the high rate of poverty increase inhabitants vulnerability to water borne diseases.

"The thing we do is hard work because the only way to make a living is in the swamp'', a woman name Kolue said. She and others in her community would use hours each day working in the swamp to garden but because mosquitoes use the swamp as a breeding ground, residents complain of frequent outbreak of water related diseases including malaria and typhoid.

Moreover, due to the very low health and sanitation education, many community dwellers still defecate in the open or use some kind of shallow pit latrine. Even though Corona virus is in Liberia, some inhabitants stated that they do not washing their hand at all after visiting the toilet at the business centers, state participants during Lifewater Health and Hygiene Workshop. The reliance on a open hand dug well as the only source of portable primary water supply in the community place Lost G-4 access to safe drinking water source as a matter of priority but unfortunate that no one could help until Lifewater step in. When Lifewater inform community about the hand pump and the health and hygiene awareness it was impossible to believe by many. After the well completion and water was pump, many inhabitants felt relive and wrote Lifewater to express their sincere gratitude. " The clean water we have a few meters from our houses has cut our long travel for water". ''Knowing that safe for my family and I to drink is a dream to us''.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
