A message from the community

Dear Sir, As an entire community, we are extremely grateful for your facilitation and aid to our village. It was proven to us, just how lacking we were in knowledge and how ill prepared we were in preparing for dealing with both disease from drinking bad water and also in relation to this virus that is afflicting our world. You came to our rescue and what you offered to us was life giving and will continue to give life with every bucket of water we draw from our new well. Thank you for helping us and we ask that the Lord bless you and keep you all safe and well. Sincerely Bomi Roberts Town Chief

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

This town is found within the Clay-Ashland township located 10 miles (16km) from the capital city of Monrovia. The town is in the St. Paul River District of Montserrado County. The town was establish in the year 1930 by the late town chief Mr. Johnson. The community is gifted with huge amount of surface and ground water resources. Nevertheless, the surface water resource in the community is not safe for human consumption especially during the dry season from January to May and their frequent use exposes the community inhabitants to several waterborne diseases. 4 Additionally, the very low hygiene education and poor sanitation conditions practice also endanger the community to Corona Virus as well a variety of other waterborne diseases which often led to an increased rate of mortality. Due to the lack of a much needed clinic primary healthcare service of the community does not exist. During the H-H workshop it was realized that only few households used to wash their hands after visiting their toilets. Literacy level of the community is also very low because of the lack of a school and church or mosque in the quarter. Meanwhile with huge women and children population, the current level of clean water consumption of community dwellers has risen above expectation since the installation of Lifewater hand pump and the important health and sanitation workshop carried out as a means of creating awareness for the prevention of waterborne disease as well as COVID-19.
