Dear Sir/madame, With great care and opportunity, we take the time to write this letter of appreciation. You have given us safe water in a time of great need. Even though many faces we do not know who helped bring us water, we wish to thank all of you as well as the team who worked hard to make it become a reality.. safe water at last! May God bless you all and bring you increase. Augustine M Varney
about 829 people in this village Sewerville, Greater Monrovia district, rural Montserrado County, quietly sleeps during the night but comes alive during the day with the ache of the need of life's basic social services:primarily safe drinking water and a lifesaving clinic. With a huge women population, existing gender role within this quarter dictates the collection of water as the role of women and girls. And yet many women are the bread winners of the family thus diminishing the amount of time spent at schools and conducting business or farming, due to the time spend in search of water. According to residents of the community they used to have water in their hand dug well during the dry season but it is no longer the case. Because of the intense water scarcity women and children travel far to fetch any form of water they can get their hands on no matter how contaminated it may be. ‘‘We needed to wake up very early in the morning to go fetch water,’’ Mary a local resident says. Besides the use of unsafe water, there are extremely poor sanitation conditions and very low level of hygiene education further exposing the community to a variety of waterborne diseases. ‘‘It was like a dream to us when we hear that Lifewater was about to build us a hand pump,’’ says Garman a resident of the community. ‘‘People in our community never thought they would have safe drinking water’’ she continued. Today, thanks to Lifewater and The Last Well, Sewegbeh community Quarter#3 has access to safe drinking water and the important knowledge to keep their lives safe by directly following the Health and Hygiene lesson though by Lifewater. ‘‘I will no longer get sick’ from drinking dirty water’’ Tennieh a single mother of five mentioned. Now women and girls are arriving at their various business and schools in time and in good health. This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
