Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

The city of Brewerville stretches over twelve miles long into the heart of rural Montserrado County. Brewerville shelters the community of Kubono in the outskirts. This area was founded in the late 1930's by a man called "Old man Boakai" from the Mel-Mende tribe, and Boakai was the original name of this community.

During the Liberia civil war in 1990, the community was used as barracks hosting the International Peace Keepers who came to help stop the war. The peace keepers set up check points to protect the people and their movement from one place to another. The peace keepers called the town by it's check point name which was pronounced incorrectly by the peace keepers and remains today to be called "Kubono".

This community is without schools, churches and clinics, if someone needs medical attention they have to go to Brewerville. Char coal production and farming is the main source of livelihood for this community.

Open hand dug wells have been the only source of water, having to walk more than two kilometres to fetch water. Several failed promises by public officials to deliver safe drinking water to the community, has been difficult.

Thankfully this new well has given them health & hope for a better future!

Thanks so much for helping make this possible!

Ms. Precious
