A message from the community

Dear Sir,

The peace loving citizens of our community, as a whole, would like to extend hands of thanksgiving to all who have made this well become a real blessing to so many. Your education workshop was very helpful and timely and we plan on sharing it with our families and friends.

So many of us are experiencing difficulties in our health and our homes, much we see now due to ignorance. We are very grateful that you have opened our eyes and helped us in this way both the training time and the new water well.

Thank you so much

Matthew T Bracewell.

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Located on the  road  that leads to the City of Brewerville, rural Montserrado county Liberia is situated the community of Kubono Quarter-1: a community with a population of approximately five thousand inhabitants and a little over four hundred structures according to the town chief Mathew T. Bracewell. Kubono community was established by the late 1930 through the occupant of the Dei tribe. Interestingly, fundamental to the foundation of Kubono was a local area king called King Long Peter: who was the first to welcome the American Colonization Society (ACS) free slaves to Liberia according to local historian of the town.

With a huge women and children making up the population; Kubono Shop Community Quarter-1 still lacks access to safe drinking water. Sadly, the main drinking water source is a open untreated hand dug well. Consequently, outbreaks of dysentery, diarrhea and other waterborne diseases are major health condition that have hunted the community for more than fifty years. '

'Anything you do in this life involve water'' explains a lady name Patience Johnson a resident of the community. ''The major challenges here was water insecurity,'' she continued. Nevertheless, by the arrival of Lifewater's Health and Hygiene Team community dwellers were thought important lessons to keep washing their hands as a means to stay safe from diseases and most importantly to keep drinking from the safe source of drinking water (hand pump) provided by Lifewater to stay free from waterborne diseases.  ''Now that we have received safe drinking water, the whole community is happy'' town chief Mathew T. Bracewell added. Today, Kubono shop Quarter-3 sits happy that children can attend schools on time while women can do other house chores.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
