Salami Town is located in the district of Todee in Montserrado County, along the road to Morris's Farm, Bong Mines, Iron Gate and the lower part of Kakata. This town was established by Momo Sackie in the early 1930's. T his community has no basic services, no schools or clinics. Since there is no school here the children have to leave very early in the morning and walk to another town to go to school. There is approximately 450 people living here mostly women and they make there living by farming cassava (cassava is also known as yucca root) it is ground up to be used for making fufu. They also farm garri, palm oil and rice. The lack of drinking water has been a great challenge with streams being the only source of water and dries up completely in the dry season. On October 24, 2019 Lifewater Liberia conducted a Health & Hygiene Workshop for this community with 27 participants. The people learned the importance of a clean environment and how important it is to wash their hands regularly. This new well will provide safe clean water for children and their families for many years to come. We are very grateful for this life changing well and we promise and pledge to keep very good care to not let it spoil.
This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
