Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

The Maje II community, is located in Angwan Lalo, northern Suleja, near the iconic Zuma Rock. The community is a rural and predominantly agrarian settlement in Niger State that faced a dire water crisis. The community's sole source of safe water was a borehole that had been broken for several months. This forced residents into an impossible situation, relying on either distant, unsafe sources or expensive water vendors. The impact was devastating. Everyday life was a struggle, as buying water constantly drained already scarce finances. The alternative was a polluted stream, where the water, often dirty and unsafe for drinking, presented significant dangers. Old women risked injury on the slippery downhill path, and children frequently returned home with bruises. Faced with a heartbreaking choice, many children had to prioritize fetching water over attending school or helping on the farm. Even more distressing, this reliance on unsafe water led to widespread illness, with many residents constantly falling sick. Concerned by this severe humanitarian crisis, Lifewater embarked on a life-saving mission in Maje II. We rehabilitated their broken borehole, bringing a profound transformation to the community. Today, Maje II has been relieved from a long season of hardship. Safe water is flowing freely again, and joy has returned, making the community feel alive once more. Residents can now fetch water with ease, children attend school earlier, and families no longer have to deplete their finances buying water from vendors. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our donors, whose unwavering support made this vital change possible.
