We thank Lifewater Nigeria on behalf of Sarki Shaga community for acknowledging us to have come to rehabilitate our borehole. We are so glad for this kind gesture. Thank you all and God bless. Thank you for accepting our request. Yours faithfully, Hamza Yakubu 09150837500
Sarki Shaga, a community within the Gbako Local Government Area of Niger State, Nigeria, lies in a region with a rich historical tapestry, influenced by the Nupe Kingdom which held sway over parts of Niger State for centuries. Gbako LGA, like many areas in this agriculturally significant state, faces developmental challenges, particularly in ensuring consistent access to clean and safe water for its rural populations. Historically, communities like Sarki Shaga have often depended on traditional water sources that are vulnerable to contamination and failure. For Bala Ibrahim and the residents of Sarki Shaga, the breakdown of their borehole had plunged them into a dire situation, forcing them to rely on a dangerously inadequate alternative. As Bala recounts with palpable relief: "My name is Bala Ibrahim. On behalf of the entire community i appreciate Lifewater for the good work. We relied on a shallow, contaminated well for our water. It was our only option after our borehole stop working, the water made us sick with diseases like dysentery, stomach ulcers and typhoid. Children became weaker, missing school for weeks at a time, while mothers spent their days trying to care for them and still fetch enough water for daily needs." Bala's words paint a stark picture of a community suffering under the weight of waterborne illnesses and the immense burden placed on women and children. The contaminated well was not just an inconvenience; it was a direct threat to their health and the social fabric of Sarki Shaga, hindering education and economic activity. The arrival of Lifewater brought not just a solution, but a restoration of hope. Bala's tone shifts to one of profound gratitude as he describes the transformation: "When Lifewater rehabilitated the well, it felt like they had restored life itself to Sarki Shaga. Clean water now flows abundantly, and the air in our community feels lighter. Children laugh and play, healthy and full of energy, while women finally have the freedom to focus on farming and trading." The rehabilitation of the well has had a profound and multifaceted impact. The abundance of clean water has eradicated the debilitating illnesses that plagued the community, bringing back health and vitality, especially to the children. The liberation of women from the constant and arduous task of fetching contaminated water has empowered them to re-engage in productive activities, strengthening the local economy. Bala concludes with a powerful testament to Lifewater's impact: "The rehabilitated well is more than just a source of water, it is a symbol of hope, health, and renewal for us. We will forever treasure Lifewater for giving us this chance to thrive. Thank you and God reward your kind efforts." This story from Sarki Shaga underscores the transformative power of a restored water source, breathing new life into a community and offering a pathway to a healthier and more prosperous future.
