On behalf of Saganuwan Kula community, I Usman Isah, write to this honourable and Godsent organization to thank you for your gesture by rehabilitating the long-damaged borehole (8 years) in our community. Women and girls in this community have been facing serious challenges in accessing water. The weater is not even good for us but because we have no other, the people kept drinking it at the same time animals also drink from our source of water which is river. But we appreciate your gesture and our people will no longer go to the river again. God bless Lifewater Nigeria. Yours faithfully, Usman Isah
Saganuwan Kula, a community within the Gbako Local Government Area of Niger State, Nigeria, is situated in a region steeped in history and tradition. Niger State, with its diverse cultural heritage, has been home to various groups, including the Nupe people who have a significant historical presence in the Gbako area. Like many rural communities in Niger State, Saganuwan Kula has faced challenges in accessing essential infrastructure, particularly a consistent supply of clean and safe water. Historically, residents often relied on traditional water sources, which are vulnerable to contamination and can become unreliable, especially during dry seasons. For Idris Mohammed and the people of Saganuwan Kula, the struggle for water had become a defining hardship. As Idris recounts: "I am Idris Mohammed. For as long as I can remember, we struggled with a well that barely provided clean water. Over time, it became completely unusable, and we were forced to rely on unprotected sources that made us sick. Women trekked for hours each day to fetch water, often neglecting their businesses and farms, while children stayed home from school to help." Idris's words paint a vivid picture of the profound impact of water scarcity on the community's daily lives and livelihoods. The unreliable well and the subsequent reliance on unsafe sources led to illness, disrupted economic activities as women spent countless hours fetching water, and hindered children's education as they were needed to assist with this essential task. The intervention of Lifewater brought a transformative change to Saganuwan Kula. Idris describes the impact with heartfelt gratitude: "Lifewater kind intervention changed everything. They rehabilitated the well, turning it into a reliable source of clean and safe water. Today, our community is healthier, stronger, and united. Children attend school without interruptions, mothers return from their farms with smiles, and the fear of sickness has been replaced with joy and hope." The rehabilitation of the well has had a ripple effect throughout the community. Access to clean and safe water has directly improved public health, reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases. The time saved from the arduous task of fetching water has empowered women to focus on their businesses and farms, boosting the local economy. Crucially, children are now able to attend school regularly, investing in their future and the future of Saganuwan Kula. Idris concludes with deep appreciation: "Lifewater generosity has given us a future to look forward to. God bless the organization in abundance." This story from Saganuwan Kula underscores the profound and multifaceted impact of providing a community with access to clean water, fostering health, education, economic empowerment, and a renewed sense of hope.
