Mary Paye Farm Town is located along the Kakata Wayalia highway approximately 15 minutes from the town of Kakata. This town was named after a Mary Paye who is the owner of the rubber farm. Approximately 1,500 people live here and make a living as small scale farmers, or have contract work at the rubber farm. Some people from other communities, also commute here to work on the rubber farm. Mary Paye Farm Town lacks all the basic services including schools, clinics, and markets, there is no electricity and there was no safe drinking water to be found. The children walk 4 hours a day to attend school at Kakata City. The local people welcomed the arrival of the Health &Hygiene Team, and a workshop was conducted on January 8,2020 with 25 participants. The villagers were very excited to learn how disease spreads and how to break the transmission pathways. They were also glad to learn how to treat children with running stomach to help them recover fully and quickly.
This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
