A message from the community

Dear Sir,

Greetings to you all in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.  As a whole we gather together to offer to you our thanks.  Everyone is extremely happy to have a new handpump so close to us all and our entire community is grateful.

Please know we will pray for your organization so that the strength and capacity will continue to bless other needy villages.

Thank you

Abraham Jiklah

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Garbi Town is located along the Marshall Highway a few minute drive from Government Farm. It was established in 1982 by a Gola man called Moses Varney. He named the Town “Garbi” meaning ‘All Men'. This name came about at the time it was in a very deep forest and it was very fearful and dangerous because of the forest. Every time the women were walking through the forest they would start to feel fearful and call out to the men to escort them.

It was first established by the river and later moved along the road. Garbi homes are poorly built with sticks, mud, and mats made from bamboo trees. There are only three building in this town with concrete cement.

Despite the long existences of this town, they lack basic social services, including safe drinking water. The need for safe drinking water is so desperate that they spend over $100.00 USD per month to buy plastic water for drinking per household and they have to travel to the next town on the main road to buy the plastic water thus putting their lives at high risk of accident riding on motor bikes daily.

The only source of water for this town had been from the creek and hand dug wells. Their livelihood is cassavas’ farming, and charcoal burning in order to sustain their families. There is neither school nor clinic. Children of this town have to get up early before 6:00am walk to the main road nearby town to attend school every day.

The Health and Hygiene Team conducted a Workshop that taught them about their health and how to sustain it by putting into practice the basic hygiene methods that was taught by the Life water The Health and Hygiene team. At the end of the workshop the women leader appreciated the team wholeheartedly and promised to always keep their environment clean.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
