A message from the community |
Christ Life Mission Community is within the greater Monrovia belt of Montserrado County. Named after the Christ Life Mission, this community began in the early 1980s and is a Christian community with a surrounding suburb of Muslims. When the pump on the centrally situated water well failed, all hope was gone since there not a single alternative to safe drinking water for the community dwellers. ‘‘Our community lacks access to safe drinking since this hand pump spoiled," Robetta Tamba, a member of the community leadership, told the Lifewater team. "The majority of us cannot afford to buy water.’’ During the dry season, locals would often travel long distances to a hand-dug well. As a result, they would drink dirty water and were often ill with running stomach (or diarrhea). This in its way added to the increasing poverty and hardship locals faced on a daily basis. And so there was no absence of joy on the faces of the locals as the repair of the hand pump was completed. ‘‘As a community, we will forever remain grateful to Lifewater for this hand pump,’’ a community member said while pumping clean water from the well. |
