A message from the community |
On the road that leads to the city of Brewerville, in rural Montserrado County, is the community of Kubono Shop. The growing community was saddened by the breakdown of their hand pump. Locals had to return to using an old hand-dug well, which was not safe. Consequently, outbreaks of dysentery, diarrhea, and other waterborne diseases were the new normal. ‘‘All we are praying for is to get back our well,’’ said Garman, a local resident. Lifewater's pump repair team arrived. They fixed the broken pump and trained a local man, Cyrus, as a caretaker to manage the pump. ‘‘We are grateful that we have been taught how to repair and maintain this pump’’, Cyrus said. ‘‘Now that our pump is restored to working order, we will stay safe from waterborne diseases," said Edward Gibson, the community chief. ‘‘Our whole community is happy for this hand pump." Today, Kubono Shop is happy that children can attend schools on time while women can do other house chores without any worries of safe drinking water. |
