A message from the community |

Dear Sir, We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to you for the construction of a well and handpump that your organization has made available to our town. For the past forty-two years, since this town was established (1978), we have been drinking creek water or from a shallow hole in the swamp. Today, by the grace of God we are very proud to have safe water to drink. May the Lord who is good all the time, be thanked for your kindness to bringing us this miracle. Blessings Bro, John Cooper Tribe Chief |

There are 288 huts in this village. Cooper Town is a growing town in Margibi County on land once owned by a man named James Cooper. It is a fertile land with a high yield of cassava which is the frequent food of the locals. The fertile land has attracted many people, which allowed Cooper Town to become a large settlement. According to community dwellers, there has always been water in their hand-dug well during the dry season, but it is no longer the case nowadays due to the effect of climate change. Very few people in this village are able to buy plastic water; the harm of waterborne diseases therefore poses a serious challenge to the health and well-being of the town’s dwellers. Now the scarcity of water means that women and children must travel far to fetch any form of water that they can get their hands, no matter how contaminated it is. "We used to wake up very early in the morning to go fetch water," local resident Eva said. "With this new well (from Lifewater donors) already I see a difference: My children and I will no longer get sick from drinking dirty water and we’ll save two hours each day from fetching water from so far away.’’ "It was like a dream to us when we heard that Lifewater was about to build us a well and hand pump," said Lucy, another local resident. ‘‘People in our town never thought they would have safe water.’’ Since the town now has safe drinking water, locals are living more healthy and prosperous lives. This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberians. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
