A message from the community

Dear Sir,

To have your team arrive in our district with the drill rig was like a dream that came true.  It has been a long time for us to struggle with lack of good water.  The suffering had become common to all of us and to say we lost hope of this situation changing is God's truth.

Now we have a new pump and an excellent workshop that gave us information to help to stay healthy. Nothing so exciting has ever happened to us here before!

It is with great joy that we express our thanks in this letter and know that our prayers will be with you when we go to draw our safe water every day.

With thanks

Joseph DeKulch

Town Chief

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Nyman Town Q#3 is located behind quarter two, up the hill in the area called Borkpagbolo; meaning 'Old Stick.' It was founded by a hunter in 1933. This old man later changed the name from Borkpagbolo to Nyman Town. Nyman Town gave birth to three communities namely Quarter 1, 2 and 3 which is known as the mother of town 1 and 2.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. This Quarter 3 has a school and but there is no clinic. The inhabitants go to Kakata to seek medical attention and they have to walk for almost four hours to get there. It is a large community with about 512 inhabitants. The people of this Quarter are engage in farming, and burning coal for their livelihood.

This community like other areas, lack safe drinking water. Before this well was drilled, they use to get water from the creek walking for an hour from the town to fetch water. For those who are not able to walk that far distance they would have to buy plastic bag water or drink the open hand dug well . This brings about water borne diseases like skin rashes from bathing with it, running stomach, diarrhea and dysentery.

When the Lifewater Health and Hygiene Team arrived in this community they were received by the inhabitants with great respect. A Workshop was conducted to teach the people how to take care of themselves hygienically. During the Workshop they were taught about the essence of safe drinking water, how to chlorinate water before consumption, washing hands and also about disease transmission.

At the end of the lessons taught all the participants committed themselves to keep up with the daily Health and Hygiene Methods.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
