A message from the community

Dear sir,

Words cannot express what this handpump planted by Lifewater and The last Well has meant to our community.

Everyday our children and women walked long distances to fetch water to drink that we just learned was making us sick. It was a constant struggle for our children to get to school on time and concentrate when they did get there. Now we have a pump right close to us and this is no longer a problem for us.

Please accept our thanks and appreciation for this great humanitarian act you have done for us.  Our hands will care for it well and our hearts will lift you up in prayer to the God who can bless you and keep you all.

With thanks

Daniel Sackie

Quarter Chief

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

This Community is located at the front side of Gwee Town under the hill before arriving at the center of the Town.  It is along the road leading to a popular town in that are called Goba Town.

Quarter 2 is large and populated with a population count of about 675 inhabitants. There is an Elementary and Junior High School that caters to the educational needs of all the school going children in the area. There is no clinic in Gwee Town forcing the locas to travel to Goba town to seek medication when they are ill.

This Community has suffered from the lack of safe drinking water for a long time. The old sources for water were from open hand dug wells and a creek that is surrounded by bushes. One of the old sources, the hand dug well, goes dry during the dry season causing all the inhabitants to fetch water from the creek. As a result of these contaminated sources, many of them come down with running stomach, skin rashes, vomiting and other water borne diseases.

As the HNH team conducted a health and hygiene workshop for the people of this town, they were all happy to learn about taking care of their water and cleaning their environment. They were taught on the purification of water and the basic method of avoiding sicknesses.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
