Dear Sir, After suffering for safe drinking water over the period of time, we, the leaders and members of Gwee Town Q#1 wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to you from everyone in this quarter. The new handpump will bring health and give great hope for a better future. Our drinking water has been a problem always and many have lost health and sadly children because the water hole has held bad disease and harm for us. Now this is no longer a concern. Gwee Town Quarter 1 is located along the road leading to one of the most popular town called Goba Town. The distance from Todee junction to Gwee Town about 5 minutes drive. It is the first big Town from the main Monrovia- Kakata high way called Todee junction. This Town according to the elders was establish in the 18 century by the late Joseph P. Gwee. The Town is large and have a population of about 546. The major source of livelihood for them is farming, coal burning, along with motor cycle taxi's mostly by the youth and other types of small businesses. Before the arrival of the Health and Hygiene Team, the Town has been suffering from several outbreaks of running stomach cause by unsafe drinking water. Some dwellers to go blind from the lack hygiene practices and also there is quite a high child death rate. This alarming situation brought to the attention of the local authority that has been cring out for humanitarian assistance. Lifewater's Health and Hygiene Team conducted a Workshop to training and shared knowledge with the community on how to prevent communicable diseases and take good care of their environment for good health. They explained to them the importance of practicing on a daily basis how to keep themselves safe from getting sick by putting what they have learn in the Workshop to practices . "This Workshop have brought to us changes in the way of living by chlorinating our water and keeping the environment clean of garbage and disposal site", the Women Leader who represented the town chief said. She give a big thank you to the Lifewater family for the good work done for the community. This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
