A message from the community

Dear sir,

Everyone one here is eager to say thank you for this exceptional blessing of a new well.  You did a great job and we are all very grateful for your humanitarian act.

For many years we have not had water in our town.  Hours a day we spend fetching enough to drink, wash our cloths or clean. Those who can afford it spend a great deal of money to purchase plastic water, but most have to make do with the water from the swamp.  Frequently we have an outbreak of sickness that we learned from the Hygiene workshop was caused from this water.

We are even more grateful for you timely intervention.

With thanks

Shedrick Goodridge

Town Chief

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

This Town is located after William Morris' Farm, about thirty-five minute drive from The Morris' Farm junction. Miatta Town was established in 1914 by Old-ma Kemah Zoe and was named after her daughter Madam Miatta Zoe who was her beloved and favorite child.  The town has a mixed population dominantly women, children and the elderly.

This town has a long history of existence but still lacks basic social services, such as safe drinking water and basic health care. The only institution that has aided the children to provided basic beginner /primary education located in the lone Pentecostal church.

Since this Miatta Town was established, the locals only source of drinking water had been wide open hole that was left uncovered by diamond diggers who were mining for mineral in the area. It is very far from the town and is located in the swamp. It takes approximately 20 minute walk to get to that old source.

In the wake of this condition of lack of clean safe drinking water, a lot of water borne diseases have affected the people of the this town especially women and children causing untimely deaths of children due to running stomach, vomiting and skin rashes that developed into skin sores when scratching the itch continuously.

As the Lifewater Health and Hygiene Team entered the town the news of their work and the new hand pump coming into their town was told to the group of citizens who gather to listen to the welcome remarks and introduction of the team during the workshop by the town chief, they all broke into dancing and started singing and praising God for their new hand pump.

The Workshop was held by the Team and they were taught on basic health and hygiene methods including caring for their environment and water purification using simple means to take prepare their drinking water.
They were happy and give thanks to the Lifewater Family and Sponsors for their new hand pump and health education.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
