A message from the community

Dear Sir,

We, the members of Banana Bush Community wish to extend to you our enthusiastic thanks for bringing safe water to our community.  Our children will no longer have to drink creek water and risk running stomach, or walk on busy roads to the far away handpump.

Words do not explain to you how much your humanitarian act has aided our members

We give thanks to God for your kindness. We pray that He bless you richly and abundantly!

Moses G Yeabordin

Village Chief

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

The Banana Bush, Community is located at the very beginning of Government farm.  It is the first community you entered after you leave Boy’s town from the main Airport road (RIA). The name Banana Bush was given to this community because of the habitat growth of so many banana trees in this part of Government farm and it is dominantly known for its coconut plantation & production.

The people of this community earn their living from petty trade while others ride taxi bikes especially the youth. This community is large with a population of about 6000 inhabitant with so many schools and several clinics, but still it lacks safe drinking water.

Due to this huge population and lack of safe drinking water many community dwellers get sick from various water borne diseases like running stomach, diarrhea, skin rashes and etc. before Life water came in to provided they hand pump. Their source of safe water was going across the main motor way that is about fifty (50 minutes) walk. The risk of children’s death for this community was very high because of they have to risk crossing the main Car road with water on their head with no police guidance to crossed over.

Economically the citizens are spending over US$200.00 for plastic water bag as we called it here. Their condition was grave until the Lifewater Health and Hygiene and drilling teams came in to hold a Workshop teaching them about the essence of safe drinking water taking care of the environment. The participants were taught about the basic hygiene practices to avoid sicknesses. They were told to always keep their surrounding clean.

The Workshop ended with happiness on the faces of the participants appreciating The Lifewater family and the Sponsor for the new hand pump.

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
