A message from the community |

Dear Saints, We take this time in the form of a letter of heartfelt thanks to present our appreciation to all who have worked so hard to bring us safe water to drink. We have suffered long and have lost children and many of us are frequently sick because of bad water. Our culvert well is shallow because of the rock and it runs dry after just a few buckets causing us to fetch the swamp water. We didn't realize the extent of how much it affected all of us until we had the workshop from your team. Now with the new well and the new knowledge we can look forward to a better life. Thank you so much! We praise God for bringing His love is such a practical way! Anthony Saah Town Chief |

Quarter 3 is located within the center of Government Farm around the General Town Chief resident. But despite the location of this community, there lacks basic social services such as, schools, clinics and safe drinking water. As a result of the lack of drinking water, the majority of the homes spend over US$100-150 USD for bagged water so their family to drink clean water. The people of this community earn their living from farming, burning coal and fishing. others who cannot afford to pay for plastic water live with the risk of attracting water borne diseases from the hand dug wells and creeks that they fetching water form. They have been in need of safe drinking water for a long time and over the time they have to fetch water from areas far from their homes, They have to get up very early first thing in the morning to find water, walking along the roadside or crossing the road into bushes using flashlights to get to their water source where they will found water, sometimes the girls are chased by evil men or criminals during late hours or early morning hours while in search of water. The people have no toilet causing the elderly to go on the beach and bushes. The children, as a result of this no toilet facility, have to use behind their houses to toilet. As a result of this condition they suffer from running stomach, typhoid and other water borne diseases. The Health and Hygiene Team of Lifewater Liberia had to move in and hold a Workshop to train the inhabitants on how to take care of their environment to live safe and healthy. The participants were happy experience what they needed to know about basic methods of preventing diseases. At the end of the Workshop, the elders, on behalf of the Quarter extended their thanks and appreciation and promised to put into practice all that were taught to them in the Workshop.
This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
