Lifewater Canada is responding to the devastation in Haiti.
Immediately following the Haitian earthquake, Les Babock, an experienced driller from Alberta who has drilled wells in Haiti for 28 years, went to Haiti with Jim Gehrels, a Senior Hydrogeologist with the Ontario Ministry of Environment and volunteer President of Lifewater.ca, They spent 17 days in country working to help provide safe drinking water and laying the ground work for a longer-term sustained response to this humanitarian emergency. They were able to successfully:
- Deliver emergency water, food and medicine to Port-au-Prince;
- Drill 3 new wells for underserviced villages receiving large numbers of homeless refugees;
- Rehabilitate 5 existing wells;
- Support the distribution of biosand filters in Port-au-Prince;
- Meet with other groups operating in Haiti to coordinate the local team's work with the larger, sustainable development response that Haiti will need in the years ahead to recover;
We are currently mobiliing for a one year sustained effort to help rebuild the country's water supply infrastructure. If you would like to help support this work and have 100% of your donation go right to the people in need, you can either:
