 Project Summary

Apawu Afo village is about 49 miles from the Kokona township junction in the Keffi area of Nasarawa State of Nigeria. This community is settled by the Afo tribe who are predominantly subsistence farmers. Apawu has a population of about 600 with the little primary school of about 150 pupils drawing children from the surrounding villages. The school comprises of three classroom blocks. Kids sit on hard benches all through the day.
Their sources of water are two little water holes/puddles about 1½ miles from the center of the village. The government had a plan to provide water, but that has not materialized yet. Ours was a very difficult process that took a longer time. There are lots of rocks in this community making the work very hard. But hopefully this handpump should help a lot especially with the school children who do not have to walk too long for water every morning.
