Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |

Thompson Community is located in the township of Caldwell, along the Mount coffee hydro road, and is about 1hr drive from the capitol city, Monrovia. This Community despite its location along the Mount Coffee Hydro plant it has no safe drinking water facility nearby as a result, the locals has to buy the plastic mineral water to take home for drinking for those who cannot Alfold to buy the plastic water are left with no option but to get water from the open hand dug well in the area that also gets dry during the dry season. The situation have cause many familes to relocate during the dry season. This Community has a population of a little over 875 person mainly women and children. As one of the oldest townships in Montserrado, lacks basic social services, the main activities of this community are general small businesses. Those who can afford mineral water are few because of the social economic constrain they are facing, while others get water from the nearby streams. As a result of this condition, women, children mostly and sometimes men suffer diseases like malaria, diarrhea and etc. The death rate in this area is high during the rainy season because of the dirty water to flows into the hand dug wells their major source of clean water. When the Life water drilling team arrive to drill a well for them it was a God answer prayer for the entire population as the women and children surround the vehicles with great joy and dancing giving thanks to God for bring water to their community. This is the only hand pump ever drilled in this the community since its establishment back in the 90's. |
