Sarida village is about one and a half hour’s drive from civilization. The inhabitants are traditionally of Gwari origin but a number of ethnic groups dot the landscape due to migration in search of greener pastures.  A river flows from another village through Sarida, and water plants grow in this water giving a green colouration and making it unpleasant to the eyes and to taste. Fishermen, in attempt to catch fish, usually add chemical to the water to weaken the fish and make it easy to catch them. The harmful effect of this chemical also poses health threats to humans. When this happens, the women look for places to dig and allow water to collect overnight. This method is very slow, and for this reason, several dugouts can be found throughout  the entire landscape. With numerous containers to fill, women and their children stay around the dug-outs for prolonged periods of time hoping to have a container filled with water to take home. This is a daily significant physical strain on women and children, who are usually saddled with the responsibility of providing water for cooking and drinking in the house. The children also trek long distances to go to school, and have to engage in such activities as hawking and collecting water for the family. Frequent breakdowns in health of women and children is often reported.

The delight of the community with the provision of this drilled well knows no bounds.
